Emily was sitting on the floor of the hallway, her head resting on her knees, tear stains making wet tracts down her face. She sniffled occasionally, but her tears were silent, and the silence was more deafening than all the noise in the world. Eventually somebody would come look for her; they always did.
Stupid emotions. It had been the English paper that had set her off this time. Everybody else had written papers about happy families and beautiful childhoods, filled with parents who never left you and siblings who loved you. And it had only served to make Emily feel hollow inside. And then it had been her turn to present her paper.
She had tried to find a way to totally avoid her life before The Incident, but it hadn't been possible. So she had decided that instead of making people wonder about her past, so that they asked questions later, she would just go ahead and mention that her parents were dead. So she had just said it, openly, with no qualms. And somebody had laughed.
The laugh had been like a punch to her gut. Before she had known what she was doing, she was running out of the room and down the hallway, leaving her paper behind her. Now she sat alone, trying not to feel like the biggest loser in the world. Who actually cried in high school? And her mascara was probably running, and her nose got all red when she cried...this had to be the worst day ever. She hadn't even found a good place to hide.

&&he saw...
Wyatt, who was on his usual trip to the bathroom and back, came across a girl who was crying in the hall. From where he was at, he didn't recognize her. But then, as he came nearer, he recognized his friend Emily, who was crying silent tears in the hall. Wyatt's mouth dropped and he completely forgot where he was going to go and see his friend. He dashed over and knealt down next to her, laying his hand softly on her back.
"Em?" he said as softly as possible, so as not to startle her. Wyatt couldn't imagine what would have made her so upset. Usually, Emily was so happy and so go lucky, and it sometimes made Wyatt sick to his stomach to see her so happy. Now her tears, her many silent tears, were making him sick, not only in his stomach but in his heart. It hurt him so bad to see a friend cry.
And the worst part was not knowing why.

Someone sat next to her, and then said her name, and Emily's immediate reaction was to draw more into herself. She clasped her arms more tightly around her legs, bringing them closer into her body. But her eyes were sad and empty.
She looked up to see it was one of her closest friends, Wyatt. Emily scooted over and pressed her side against his for comfort. She sobbed and sobbed before she finally felt okay to talk.
"I'm sitting out here crying because I ran out of my classroom," she said blatantly. She knew that it was a very kindergarten thing to do, but she hadn't been thinking straight anyway.
Emily shook her head. "But they don't know. But they probabaly dont care so who does anyway?"

&&He held her to comfort her
Wyatt hugged her when she pressed herself against him and he rested his head on top of hers, shushing her quietly.
"I'm sitting out here crying because I ran out of my classroom."
"Oh, it's okay. People do that. It's not like it's not common. I've seen plenty of girls, and plenty of guys, sitting out here, crying away. You're the most sain," Wyatt comforted her and then slowly loosened his grip.
"But they don't know. But they probabaly dont care so who does anyway?"
Wyatt shook his head as well and smiled slightly, trying to cheer her up. "You shouldn't listen to them. They don't know. They aren't perfect though, because no one is. I know that and so do you. That's really just the reality of it all, you know?" Wyatt knew her whole problem because he was one of her best friends. He sympasized with her, because she was so alone all her life. Now, he was trying his hardest to fill in that loneliness, whatever way he could.
And right now, he could just hug her and tell her it would be okay.

Emily clutched the collar of his shirt for comfort. She needed her friends. And while everyone thought that they were mindless bimbos and jocks it wasnt true. They were deeper than what everyone though. Especially Wyatt.
"Somebody laughed during my English paper presentation. But it wasn't funny...I had just talked about watching my parents dying." Emily had just managed to quiet her sobs, and now they threatened to start up full force again. But her parents' death was still a touchy subject for her. After all, she had watched them be murdered. Of course she had done therapy for that, but all of the therapy in the world doesn't take those images out of your mind. The therapy had actually mostly been to make sure that she didnt' erase that part of her memory because it was so traumatic.
Emily tried to wipe the tears off of her face, but to no avail. She ran one hand through her auburn curls, wishing will all of her might that she hadn't written about being an orphan at all. But it had seemed so safe when it was just her and her computer screen.

Alessandra was in Emily's english class. She knew it was a overly touchy subject for Emily to talk about her parents so she got so upset when one of the girls made a rude comment and laugh.
But she wasn't one to get into all that drama and just shook her head and ran out after Emily. She looked around to see if she could find her in the parking lot and finally spoted her.
She went up to her and sat down besides her as she wached her grab unto Wyatt. "It wasn't funny...Don't worry about that girl she is even dummber and uglier than Melissa"She said trying to make her friend laugh or even just smile.

Emily nodded when Alessandra commented. She didn't smile though... she was too upset. Ever since she had watched her parents be killed... Life for her was miserable. Sure she had the happy-go-lucky thing going on for her, but it was like cover up- it covered up her problems and people wouldnt have guessed what happened to her. She does her happy-go-lucky so well, she even fools herself sometimes.
She clutched Alessandra too.

&&He wanted to break down...
"Somebody laughed during my English paper presentation. But it wasn't funny...I had just talked about watching my parents dying."
Wyatt nodded and hushed her some more. "You'll probably never be able to forget, but you can get better, I promise. And I'll help," Wyatt hugged her tighter and then loosened up a bit and looked up to see Alessandra coming down the hall.
"Alessandra," Wyatt began, watching her come over and start to talk to Emily. It was no use trying to keep up a conversation with both girls. They would soon probably both be crying and all Wyatt could do was sit there and hug.
